How to Set Up a Single-Sign on with D2L Brightspace

Enable SSO between D2L and Edge Factor to streamline educator and learner access using existing credentials.

This step-by-step guide outlines how to complete LTI 1.3 integration.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following:

    • You are a D2L Brightspace administrator with full permissions.

    • Your organization has an active Edge Factor membership.

    • Access to D2L Developer Tools and LTI integration capabilities.

    • Your D2L instance supports LTI 1.3 or higher.

    • You’ve received LTI credentials (Client ID, Deployment ID, URLs, etc.) from Edge Factor.

Step 1: Log into D2L Brightspace

  1. Go to your D2L Admin login page.

  2. Enter your administrator credentials.

Step 2: Register Edge Factor as an LTI Tool

  1. Go to: Admin Tools → Manage Extensibility.

  2. Under LTI Advantage, click Register Tool.

  3. Select Standard Registration.

  4. Fill in the required fields using information from Edge Factor:

    • Tool Name: Edge Factor

    • Client ID: Provided by Edge Factor

    • Public Keyset URL, Access Token URL, Authentication URL, Deep Linking URL: Provided by Edge Factor

  5. After registration, save the Deployment ID for use in the next step.

Step 3: Add Edge Factor as a Tool Provider

  1. Navigate to: External Learning Tools → Manage Tool Providers.

  2. Add a new tool using the previously registered Edge Factor details.

  3. Enable the following:

    • Tool Status: Enabled

    • Deep Linking: Allowed

    • Auto-Creation of Users: Enabled

Step 4: Create a Link to Edge Factor

  1. In your course or shared template, go to:
    Content → Add Existing Activities → External Learning Tools

  2. Select Edge Factor from the list.

  3. This adds a one-click access button for users to log into Edge Factor.

Optional: Add Edge Factor to the Navbar

  1. Go to: Navbar Settings

  2. Choose to Add External Learning Tool

  3. Select Edge Factor

  4. Position the tool for easy visibility (e.g., top right)

Final Notes

  • Edge Factor is LTI 1.3 compatible and supports SSO with automatic user account creation.

  • If login fails or integration doesn’t work:

    • Confirm all callback URLs, client credentials, and deployment IDs.

    • Ensure Edge Factor is properly assigned to the correct courses or roles.
