How to Assign Career Journey to Students

The Career Journey quiz helps students match their interests to potential careers and related skills. This guide walks you through creating a class, sharing the join code with your students,  assigning the quiz, and viewing their results.

Background Information:  What is the RIASEC Model?

The RIASEC Model, developed by psychologist Dr. John Holland, helps individuals understand their interests and how they connect to different types of work. It identifies six interest areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional.

Edge Factor uses RIASEC interest scores to help connect learners with relevant careers and resources. Career data, O*NET occupations, and SOC codes are crosswalked to these interest areas, creating a consistent way to explore career options based on student interests.

How to Create a New Class

Step 1: Go to Your Classes

• Log in to your Edge Factor account and click on the "My Classes" tab in the left side bar.

Step 2: Click the "+ New Class" Button

• Select the "+ New Class" button located in the top right-hand corner. A window will open asking for a few basic details:
  • Class name (e.g., "Period 3 – Intro to Engineering")
  • Short class description (e.g, "Learn more about careers in Engineering.")
  • Select a Class colour
• Then click "Create Class"
  
  

  Tip: Use a class name your students will recognize. They will see it when they login, as keep it clear.

   

Step 3: Save the Class & Get Your Join Code

• Once you've created your new class, a unique join code is generated.

• Share this cose with your students.

• When they login they can click the join button and join the class and see published assignments. 

  

  Tip: Share the join code verbally, on a slide, or through your school's messaging app. Each class has its own unique code.

   

Step 4: Edit Class Details Anytime & New Assignment 

• Plans change; you can update a class's name and description at any time.

  • Open the class, click the pencil to edit, make your changes, and save.

  • Click "New Assignment" to add the Career Journey.

How to Add Career Journey?

Step 1: Assign the Career Journey

• Inside your class, select "Career Journey".

• The Career Journey is automatically published to save you time! Now you can share your class join code with students so that they can complete the career journey, and you can see their results. 

How to view your students' RIASEC Results?

Step 1: Open the Class

Step 2: Click RIASEC Results 

• Click on the RIASEC Results tab.

• Open a student's RIASEC results to see a detailed breakdown of their strengths across the six RIASEC career dimensions (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional).

• If you feel a student needs another attempt (e.g for example, if they rushed through the first time), you can reset their Quiz so they can retake it.

Tip: Use these results to guide one-on-one conversations about career interests and next steps.
